Any tips???? Rss

My DS is starting to drive me mad whenever I change his nappy (so I'm driven mad several times a day!!!).

He just will not lie still on his back for even a minute, he has to roll over onto his tummy and crawl up to the top of the change table and either do pushups on the top bar or hang over the side peering down to see what's around the place, so there I am trying to put on a new nappy with him on his tummy and continually moving...

Just wondering if there are any suggestions on how to keep him still????

I've tried a few different things that might work for a while, but don't anymore, which includes giving him something to hold onto (toy, wipe, washer, clean nappy etc), the strap thing on the change table strapped around his stomach (I'll just add the times when I have used it I have never left him unattended), singing to him, pulling faces, I've even have to get DH to be a second pair of hands when he's home, but I still change a fair few nappies when he's at work....

I can't change him on the bed as it is just a bigger surface for him to crawl over and around while I'm trying to change his nappy and it'd kill my back.

Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated!!! smile
I started to change DS on the floor when he did this, then whatever he looks at I can grab, also if he's being really bad I sometimes change him tummy down or standing up (can take a few changes to get the hang of it).

How old is your DS? Is he walking yet? You could try those nappy pants things or pull ups?
I don't experience this myself but perhaps Nappy Pants might help, then you could change him standing up?
He's 11 months old.

I will try the nappy pants thankyou, but I do know they cost a bit more so probably wouldn't want it to be a full time solution.
Argh, dd does this too and shes 18months old! She thinks it hilarious but it's killing my tummy (I'm 31weeks pregnant) lol

The thing that has worked best for me when all distractions fail is telling her she is helping me - "help mummy, legs up, hold your feet- wow, what a good helped! Pass mummy the wipes, wow what a good girl" haha she isn't talking yet but understands all this somehow and holds still cos shes being a helper tongue I know your ds is younger but it's worth a shot?!

Wow your post brought back memories of DD2. She was about the same age as your DS, and she would cry, scream, and wriggle all over the place and that was before we'd even started undoing her nappy lol. It's so difficult!

One lady suggested on here to try a ball of rolled up sticky tape, which I thought was a good idea, but DD2 didnt care for it lol.

Honestly, nothing worked for us. But it did pass after a few months.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried him standing on the change table several times, but it seems too awkward. Unfortunately, I've got a pretty bad back at the moment plus other aching joints, so on the floor might be a bit hard for me.

My dd2 is exactly the same. Its the worst when they have done a poo she doesn't give me even a second to wipe it up so then we just end up with a biggggggggggg mess. sorry i don't have any advice for you i haven't found anything that helps yet. occasionally when she is holding the wipes box and pulling a million wipes out she does lie still but that doesn't happen very often and then i have to put a million wipes back in the box lol

Hopefully you might find a good hint in this post to try!!! Thankfully I haven't had any big messes yet!!! I always keep a good grip on his ankles until he's cleaned up. smile

Aren't they cheeky at times, these kids of ours. My DS sometimes has a good giggle too! Thankyou, I'll try that, he likes peek-a-boo and holds stuff over his eyes then pulls it away, but that has only helped at change time a few times!!!
I used to give dd a sticker... or a piece of sticky tape. the fact that it stuck to her fingers took up all her concentration as she couldn't quite figure it out and would pull it from one hand to the other. Worked a treat!

Thanks, I'll try sticky tape! I did find for a while a small notepad where he could flick through the pages, pull them out etc.

It's been going on since November/December so hopefully will be over soon then!!!! laugh
