Tantrum Help!
My daughter has just turned 4 and over the past 3 months, tantrums have appeared out of the blue that I feel like I have no control over what's going on. My daughter is generally an angel, very polite, helpful, happy and well behaved, but every few days there's the odd tantrum that tears me apart. They are over random things, 'her socks are itchy'(which they're not) or she might take 15 minutes to put toothpaste on her toothbrush and chucks a tantrum becuase I tell her I'm walking out of the bathroom because she's taking too long etc. Her tantrums are hysterical. She shakes and screams and gets so worked up and it suprises me at who she becomes. I love her to bits and am racking my brain at what to do to calm her down. I've been reading online and many articles say just ignore it, walk away and take a breather. I tried that today but she kept following me around the house, continuing her hysteria, getting more worked up that i was ignoring her and I caved and yelled in frustration. I really don't want to go another day yelling at her but I don't know what else to do in the midst of the tantrum. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
I have a three year old daughter who does much the same thing, she just gets really frustrated and worked up over silly things but only occasionally and the rest of the time she's an angel. When she gets to the point thats she's screaming and not listening anymore, I take her to her room and tell her to sit on her bed til she calms down and come and see me when she's ready. She's really good about it, and sometimes takes herself there now, she just screams into her blankets for a couple of minutes and then comes and tells me what she was upset about so i can sort it out. Might be worth a try?
