Hi Noddy, DD had a bad case of diarreah last yer jUSt before we went away. I was freaking out as I had been waiting to go away since dd was born and now she was sick. I'm not quit sure what caused it but she was perfectly healthy and well behaved apart from the explosions laugh

First try to cut out all dairy produce. If your dd has a bottle before bed give it to her but apart from that don't give her yoghurt, milk or ice-cream. Try not to feed her acidic food or foods like pears and berries.

This is going to sound really strange but give your DD apple sauce to eat! Crazy I know, but cooked apple works wonders for Diarreah! It has to be cooked apple for it to work, it helped dd so much. Also plain things like bread and crackers are good.

Get some hydrolyte ice-blocks and give your dd a couple through the day so she stays hydrated. Make sure you use nappy rash cream at every change other wise she will end up wiht a very sore bottom. If it hasn't gone int he next couple of days take her to a gp for a check up. Hope this helps smile

Ive got the same problem but not the explosions tho....

Im trying to think what she's eaten differently to set it off but i cant seem to think of anything..

Maybe its going around? My daughter isnt in child care and we havent been to play group for awhile. Havent really been out for awhile either so i dont know.

But it has started after she had a cold tho, even tho her cold was finished for about a week...

Yeah im trying to give her lots of fluids and dry things but its very hard for a nearly 2 year old!

Good luck with it.
Sorry, no magic, instant cure but here's the advice my Dr gave me:
-Keep up fluids; water or hydrolyte (or similar) only
-No dairy; (I did give a watered down bedtime bottle)
-No or low fibre; no fruit/veg etc, no sauces. Stick to plain pasta/rice etc.
-If there is any blood or mucus in the diarrhea, call your doctor immediately. (It helps them if you keep a sample, i'd just double bag the whole nappy). Also if she refuses water or becomes really lethargic. Other than that it just has to run its course.

Also if you happen to pick up the awful bug too, take some panadeine forte. Because you're UTD you can't take things like immodium but codeine is ok and will help ah, solidify things. Just be wary because too much has the opposite effect and constipation is just as un-fun! ( I found taking 2 and then 1 4hrs later was enough.)

People who live in glass houses.....shouldn't walk around naked!

Oh and after every nappy change apply some sort of barrier cream/nappy rash cream/unscented sorbalene. It will hopefully decrease that burny feeling for the poor thing.

Thanks for the tips guys. Dd only had it for a day. THANK GOODNESS! But we went through three pairs of pants.

I smothered her backside in cream and im glad too because her cheeks still got a tad red.

Thanks again!

one bubs (or anyone in my family for that matter) has something like this or a vomitting bug we stick to the BRAT diet for a couple days, seems to help. The BRAT diet is only eating bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast
