Completely Confused ! Rss

My son is 2 1/2 yrs old but has me really confused !
If he is not wearing a nappy or undies he will use or tell me he needs to use the toilet/potty which is great and he is rewarded for it.

But if he has a nappy on or even undies he just wont go to the toilet/potty no matter how many times I ask him if he needs to go ... He will just wet his undies and stay in them till i notice hes wet :/

Any advice would be much appreciated !!!
dont ask him if he needs to go just tell him its time to sit on the potty/toilet.

So I'm a bit confused about this too. I have a 2 and half year old and he'll go first thing in the morning and last at night, but thats it, and only with a nappy on too. I've been told to leave him tll he's not refusing to go. My eldest DD I took every hour or so, and then have had years of trouble with consiptation with her and the physio told me I did the wrong thing because she never learnt to feel when her bladder was full because I was dragging her off to the loo every hour. She's nearly 9 and still I have to keep and eye on her constipation issues. SO I'm leaving DS til he's showing a bit more interest but really it seems taking them every hour or so is what people do.
Hey guys thanks heaps, Il try it out and see how it goes. smile
vkw - At what age were your boys toilet trained ?
hope all going well sorry, been away, just saw this again..ds1 was 3, ds2 started training himself at 2 1/2 but was not totally fully night and day trained until close to 4.ds3 started on his 3rd b day and was day and night trained within 4-6 months

Sounds exactly like my dd2. Will take herself to the potty no problems if she has nothing on but as soon as I put undies on her she wets herself.... Clearly she will just never be able to wear pants smile

My DD1 and DS1 were both like that.

I think it's a lazyness thing. They think, oh well, I have a nappy on. why bother going to the toilet!

I found that if they had a nappy, trainingpants or undies on the just didn't bother or they were confused and thought that they had a nappy on.

I just put nothing on them while at home and they soon got the hang of it. Before I knew it, they were asking to go to the toilet when we were out(only time they were wearing a nappy) or coming home with a dry nappy anyway.

As the weather is warming up it's a great time to do it.
