Books about the new baby
I am looking to get a book or two for DS about the new baby and me being pregnant, however there seems to be heaps out there. Can anyone reccommend any they know of or have used? Thanks smile
We used There's a house in mummy's tummy which was quite good. Or you could check your local library
That's a great story, as is 'Daddy's Having A Horse" or if you want something that is a little more 'factual' then "Hello Baby" is good, as it sensitively explains a home birth and the illustrations are just gorgeous (Julie Vivas is an incredible illustrator) but it does show the naked mother in profile (so you can only see skin, no 'bits') and the baby's head emerging... in any case you should always preview anything like this before sharing with little people!

We are using there's a house inside my mummy to, my son really loves it!
i didnt use a book at all i just actually used the illustrations here on huggies in the week by week preg calender smile
i showed DD the 36 week + ones that actually look like a baby lol and showed her the little hand and little feet, and the funny 'rope' that attaches baby to mummies tummy and explained that when the baby comes out the rope wont work anymore and gets cut off (so she wouldnt be freaked out by the belly button clamp).
i even pointed out the 'holes'.. this is where we do poos from, and this is where we do wees from, and this is the special one where the baby comes out. i told her that mummy has to push very hard and it hurts a bit to push the baby out of my tummy. as result she understood why my tummy was suddenly smaller, why the baby had a funny belly button and i even explained about mummy milk! she found it all facinating and wasnt freaked out at all, even asked me if i was ok after pushing her brother out! grin
i didnt have a home birth tho so she wasnt there, i just didnt see the need to sugar coat it as its natural and a fact of life if explained the right way can be a wonderful thing smile

I didn't use any books either, just the photos on the Huggies week by week for my 2 1/2 yr old. I think they adapt so well that really the only preparation they need is to be included and given attention so they continue to feel special.
All the best!
