New car seat for 2 year old - Safe and Sound Maxi Rider? Rss

Our dd has just about grown out of her capsule, so she'll go into her older brother's seat and we'll get him a new one.

I've read that lots of people think the Safe and Sound Maxi Rider is a good one as it can last til they are close to seven years old - is that correct?

I'm in NZ and have seen a couple of variations of the Maxi Rider. I think one is a bit more basic than the other. Can anyone out there give me some more info on the types?

Also, I've only seen them advertised online. Would quite like to shop around a bit and actually have a play around with one in a store . Anyone know stores that sell them - e.g., Baby Factory?

And are these these bulky seats that take up a lot of room in the car? Any other good seats in New Zealand that you would recommend instead of the Maxi Rider?

Thanks.
I don't know about the maxi rider but I have an Infa secure convertible booster seat. They are really good and will last the same as the maxi rider but a lot cheaper. I'm in australia so not sure where to go.

Mine has the 5 point harness for when being used as a car seat and then that can be removed and used as a booster. It's for 8-26kg. So will do for my DD until she is 7yrs. smile

I think mine is the Maxi Rider and i absolutely love this car seat. With this car seat it doesnt go so much by the weight (here in australia) but it goes by the height of your child.
We paid $365 for it at Baby Bunting and apparently that was a good deal.

But dont go by me. When you look for your car seat, take your child with you to make sure all the needs meet with the guide lines.

Good luck!
I'm prob not much help as I don't have one yet, but I have looked at the sns maxi riders and love them! I think you can't go wrong getting one. They last until your child is 7 years old. We also have a mother choice harness booster and they are great too. Cheaper then the sns and pretty much the same smile

We have a maxi rider and love it! It even has built in speakers in the headrest so DD can listen to her music or DVD's without the rest of the car having to also sing a long to Yo Gabba Gabba. I found her head used to flop forward in it when she went to sleep when she was a bit smaller, but I think that happens with all seats.

Did the seat come with speakers?!! That's awesome!!!

We have two maxi rider AHR's and I think they are great!

Although there are alot of other brands that now make a similar seat.

The main difference in the maxi riders is the AHR (active head restraint) which a an extra piece of foam that goes behind and around each side of their head. It's what made it the safest seat for side impact. The basic maxi rider does not have this extra head support.

The newer model Maxi rider AHR now have the built in speakers (we have one with speakers and one without) The speakers were only introduced in the last 18 months or so (not long after we bought our first GRRR...).

The newer models(with speakers) have an extra insert to support those younger babies as it can be used from 6/9 (can't remember) months. I have only used then from 4 yrs when DD1 And DS1 grew out of their S n S AHR platinum carseats.

I'm in AUS and they're currently $349 at my local baby store. The RRP is $479.

As I said there are alot of other brands that now make a similar seat but we loved our S n S AHR convertible car seats that we stuck to something we knew! We've had no issues with any of our S n S AHR carseats.

Oh my gosh!!!!! I can't believe carseats have speakers!! This is awesome!! Do you have a link to these specific sns speaker maxi rider seats anywhere Boofarama? I will definitely be getting one!

All the Maxi AHR now have speakers (bummer cause mine doesn't lol) here is a local baby shop to me http://belly2baby.com.au/car-seats-mainmenu-201/baby-car-seats/convertable-booster-seats-8-26-kg?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=1880&category_id=15 they do deliver but you could probably get it cheaper from somewhere closer to u

Thanks that's great! I'd love to get one on sale but can't afford it just at the moment so hopefully they'll be on sale for a bit longer

I did a ring around and found a baby shop that matched the online price, "Mothercare" were great.

I have just put the Meridian AHR maxi in my car today, as my very close to 1 year old is now above the shoulder markers. I've had the seat for a few months now and have been awaiting for DD to grow so she would fit, this is a much newer seat than her old one, and she looks pretty snug in it. The moment i saw this car seat i thought it was awesome.

But there is another new seat out....

infa secure crown - 0-8yrs which is retailing around $360AU and its been thoroughly safety tested to australias 2010 standards and can even fit a prem.

So im off to check it out for the new baby as i had a prem last time and used a capsule, which i prob will still do but the capsule gets bulky and i found my DP and i sometimes where a little absent minded and would forget to put the anchor strap back around the capsule.
