Finger food ideas (& other items) Rss

Hi everyone,

Well DS is 1 in TEN DAYS! oh where did the time go?
Anyway we are having his birthday party on his actual bday since it is on a weekend and I've just realized that I have not got the menu organized. I am not sure how many people are coming as some of the invites were sent out late so I wot know until the 8th who to expect. So fat including me,DP and DS there is 19 people both adults and kids. I think I will just make a large bulk of everything and if there are left overs we can eat them later.

I was going to just have a BBQ but now I want to just do finger foods. I have some idea but would love to hear more if anyone has any suggestions. I'm trying to think of things that both adults and kids can eat.

For starters all I can think of is
-cheese platter
-crackers/biscuits and dips

For lunch
-pigs in blankets
-mini pizzas
-mini wraps or sandwiches
-salad sticks (kababs sp?)
-mini chicken wings

For desert
-fairy bread
-small ice cubes of jelly
-fruit and berry sticks
-Chocolate pieces

And for drinks
-coffee and tea
-3 bottles of soft drink
-jug of water
-2 fruit juice (preferably an orange and a blue coloured ones)
-beer (for DP mostly)

Would love any other ideas/suggestions smile also if you have any good recipes for anything above let me know smile

A little bit more about DS party - it's a coloured theme based on giggle and hoot, so everything (balloons, plates etc) will be either orange, blue or a tiny bit of purple.

If it is a hot day we will have our pool set up for the kids to splash in (small blow up pool from go-lo). We also have a large cement area under the clothes line so I was thinking of getting some of those big chalk sticks and letting the little kids draw. There will also be plently of other things for the kids to do like play with DS toys or kick some balls around.

I will be getting a large blank canvas and some orange, blue and purple finger paint. Then I'm gonna ask everyone to put a hand print on the canvas with their name or a birthday message. I'll get some brushes as well so the kids can do
It too, by the adults painting their hands for them. I'll have a bucket of warm soapy water for the clean up.

Oh I'd also love some simple ideas for party bag favours. All I've got so far is a bar of chocolate that says "DS 1st bday" on wrapper.

That's all I've got so far. Ten days away I've really gotta get organized tongue again I would love any other in put.

Ooh and I just remembered that SD1&SD2 are coming as well YAY! Lol for a while we were not sure if their mum was gonna let them. So our plan was to always bring up the party in front of the girls by saying things like "...well ur brothers party might have bubbles" or "oh your fave colour is blue? Well there will be lots of blue at DS party" all said in a casual way so that it didn't sound like we were bragging about how good it is gonna be. I even got MIL to give the girls mum the invite infront of the girls. And it paid off because DP got a text from his ex(which usually only happens in emergencies) that said something like "girls would love to go to their brothers bday" ex also said that she would bring them and pick them up but DP is gonna check again closer to the party. He doesn't mind getting them if it'll make ex life easier. If ex is happy then we are as DS will have his sisters at his birthday.

Our youngest girl is having her first birthday this weekend, a teddy bear's picnic.

As well as some of the things you're having we'll have honey joys, jelly slice, mini cup cakes, pikelets, popcorn, choc dipped strawberries/fruit platter, pizza slice, party pies, mini quiches, sausages in bread and cocktail franks with sauce.

I'm thinnking of letting the bigger kids decorate their own cupcakes, but will see how brave I feel on the day...

For partybag favours Woolies sells little books with 8 sheets of stickers (about $3). Our bags have some tiny teddies, a caramello koala, a balloon, a sheet of stickers and a bracelet for the girls/rubber lizard (from spotlight) for the boys.

Hope that helps.
Wow that's an impressive menu for 19 people.

If you get bored, I labelled all the kids juices to avoid argumets.

For games, activities include a bubble machine.

For party favours (I'm not a fan of supplying lollies) when kids have a massive sugar fix during the party so I have made library bags, personalised colouring books/crayons, personalised cupcake.

Happy planning.

Awe a teddy bears picnic sounds sweet. Might steal that idea if my next kid is a girl wink
I think getting the kids to decorate their cupcakes is a good idea. Maybe if u don't want to much mess you could have pre-frosted cakes and get the kids to ad extra bits like sprinkles, m&ms, lollies etc. Or another idea is to have make your own fruit sticks. Get some berries and whatever other fruit, some small kabob sticks at let them make their own.

Thanks for the party bag ideas. I want to put mostly gifts in and not just have a bag full of lollies.
