Toys for 1 year old? Rss

Hey ladies, DS's first birthday is a few months away and I've started planning a little bit.
I was wanting to buy him a big toy for his birthday, at the moment we just buy him little things like stacking cups/ring etc.. I quite like those activity tables and was just wondering if that would be a good toy for a 1 year old? And do you have any suggestions for good toys for a 1 year old? I will probably also get him some books and clothes and whatever our family and friends buy him.

Oh and at what age did your kids have a ride on toy??
And do you guys buy presents in advance and just keep them in the closet?

An activity table is a good idea, also a push along walker. My DS got a ride on when he was nearly one but took him a little while to get into it (he didn't walk til 16 months) The ride on had a lift up seat and you could put things in it which he loved doing.

I do normally buy presents in advance, both my boys birthdays are only a month after christmas so I like having it all sorted before Christmas

We got our daughter a 'pop up' tents and tunnel set. She LOVED it and still does a year on. She loves racing through the tunnels and playng in the tents. And they pop up quickly and fold down real small so easy to store. We also got her lots of DUPLO. Its a hard age to buy for because if you get things that are age appropriate on their birthday they change so much within 6 months that the toys seem babyish very quickly.

She got a ride on bike for her birthday ... loved it then, but couldnt move much on it. didnt bother her and loved climbing on and rocking, and pushing it around. And now its still a favourite.

Things like wooden blocks that last them for years are a good idea.

Happy shopping smile
The Tri-ang bike is the one my daughter has, They are awesome! My 3 1/2 yr old nephew still rides his all the time too smile
My DS turns one in a few days (so excited)! I went and got his birthday presents today at the target sale.
I got the cubby house on the back of the catalogue, a tonka truck, a fold up kids lounge with sleeping bag attached and some little things like puzzles etc.
With ride on toys it depends on when they have enough balance. DS has been riding on a little push car thingy for a couple of weeks now. He's earlier than his two sisters were smile
