When I first fell pregnant, my older sister (already with 3 of her own bubs) recommended 'What to Expect When You're Expecting" for all my pregnancy queries. I found it indispensable and it kept us from the hospital at least once where we very nearly panicked over the unknown. Divided into month-by-month sections and written by Mums + Drs I found it the easiest to use and most helpful pregnancy book ever. We got 'What to Expect: The First Year" when he was born and again, it was a relief just having it there knowing there's a reference for First Aid and all the things he'd be up to month by month. I thought we might not need to get "What to Expect: The Toddler Years", but we did and I'm so glad. It's a wealth of information when it comes to looking after a Toddler and although we've only just started using it it's already solved some of our queries. I didn't want books on any particular parenting 'style', I didn't want to be told how to be a parent. I think I had that much sorted already. I just needed facts and information and other people's experiences and that's what I get from these books. At the end of my child-bearing time, I'm sure the set of three would make a great gift to anyone starting a family.
