good sleep book Rss

Hi, was hoping someone could please recommend a good sleep book for me. my son is 15 weeks old and is a catnapper but sleeps well at night. has anyone got any good reports on "its time to sleep" or "the contented baby". anyway any advice would be great. thanks. shannon and jakson
Hi!

I have heard excellent reports about The New Contented Little Baby Book. Apparently it is very rigid but worth it as you and your baby get quality sleep. My friend's niece swears by it. There are mixed opinions on it but I figure anything that helps Mum and baby get into a routine is great.

Our first baby is due in December and we plan to follow it.

Enjoy!

cheers

I have Tizzie Hall's book called 'Save our sleep'. I think its really good and it has a section on it about catnapping. I bought mine from Big W. Target also has them.

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie!!

i found both gina ford's contented baby & tizzie's hall-safe our sleep too rigid & did not find answers re-settling. Good luck !
Hi,

Good luck with it all. My daughter was a catnapper when she was younger. 30-45 minutes at a time was all we got during the day. SHe now sleeps for 2-3 hours in the middle of the day which is fantastic. It was just a matter of waiting until she was ready to sleep this length of time (I think it was around 9 months, she is 11 months now). Have you tried using a baby hammock - I found that bouncing her when she started to wake up would put her back to sleep.

My advice is trust your instincts. The latest research shows that anything that involves leaving your baby to cry is harmful to the baby. These methods don't work on all babies (only 70-80%), the reason they stop crying is learned helplessness - can lead to baby depression, babies often relapse and the whole thing has to be done again.

The new book by Anni Gethwin and Beth McGregor is really good - Helping your baby to sleep. Pinky McKay (author, Sleeping Like a Baby) is also very good.

The Tizzy Hall book is awful. As I recall the women has no qualifications or children (could have changed by now). A classic from the book is because farmers milk cows twice a day you should feed your baby on a schedule. As a vet I found the whole notion of this comment bizarre in the extreme.

Hope this was helpful - sorry I don't have any comments on the books you were asking about.
PLease please please get the Contented LIttle Baby book of Sleeping. ITS FAB and makes total sense. It does go a bit against what is considered'the norm' but that is what a liked most 0 a different perspective. I liked it so much I bought the one about feeding as well and everything in THAT book has worked wonders for my DD.
Read it!!

I definatly reccomend Tizzy Halls SOS (Save our sleep).

I had Save Our Sleep with miss 1, it was good and I changed it to suit us. Although we still ended up at sleep school when she was 6 months old.
I am hoping to find a book that helps explain the whole self settle issues for #2 due in May.
I certainly dont want to end up in the same situation again, but honestly dont know where we went wrong the first time. She used to put herself to sleep, but the next thing I knew we were rocking, walking, patting and singing to get her to sleep.
Hiya Shan,

We have used Time To SLeep and it is fantastic.
Our son was still not sleeping thrugh at 10 months, and he was after the second night, fully with no hassles by the 3rd week.
I have since passed it onto 2 of my friends with successful results.
I can't recommend it enough.
All the best for Sweet Dreams smile
