Baby sign language Rss

I also have Jackie Durnin's Baby Hands. Another good book is Auslan Children's Picture Dictionary Vol 1 & 2. These can be obtained from www.bilby.net.au. My son is profoundly deaf and only turning 1 and we have found these as a great resource as we learn Auslan.
What is the best age to begin baby sign? My daughter is nearly 8 months old so perhaps it is a bit late for us now.

Hi, I did a baby signing course with my daughter when she was about 8 months old and she is learning the signs really well. Some of the kids picked it up really quickly - i think it depends on how frequently you sign to them smile My friends son is signing all the time now - he is one. Another friends daughter didn't start to sign till she was about 15 months (she did the course at about 6 months old)Although she is older and is speaking her mum says it is great because she understands a lot more of what her daughter is saying because she does the sign and the word. So when she says ba ba she knows whether she is meaning ball or bath or bird because she doest the sign at the same time. I think it is a great tool and well worth doing, you just have to be very consistent and understand she may pick it up quickly or it may take some time, but she will get it eventually, i don't think it is too late until they can speak very clearly - then there is probably no point hahaha. Another friend used this book and highly recomends it; Baby sign language basics- Early communication for hearing babies and toddlers, by Monta z briant. Good luck!
