Did you hold a baby shower? Rss

Did you, or will you, have a baby shower before bub is born?

I am pregnant with my first bub and would love some advice on how to hold a nice, casual baby shower that my guests can enjoy as well as myself and the host.
Hi Paula83,
yes, I had a baby shower and it was so nice. It was just held at a girlfriends house and we had finger food. (real simple food like pre-made sausage rolls, few sandwiches etc) Played a couple of games that everyone could join in. They were "Who knows the most about the mum to be" (a short quiz), Guess babys due date, sex and weight (this was done as $1 a guess and the money went to me to buy something for bubs). It was a nice casual day and we spent the afternoon laughing and opening presents. Dont' do anything too far away from home if it close to your due date. You really don't feel like going out too far by then. My shower was 3 weeks prior to my due date and I loved that it being at a friends house as I could take my shoes off my heavily swollen feet and not feel weird!
I wanted to keep my baby shower casual and I'm also the kind of person who doesnt like being the centre of attention (like at a baby shower with all the games like "Guess how big Mum's bump is", or that quiz "what do you know about the Mum")....so have organised for me and the girls to go out for lunch at a restaurant out of town, like at the Raspberry Cafe....that way its more of a catch up rather than a party.
I had one with my first pregnancy - It was a girlfriends house with finger foods. we didn't do the games but my girlfriend had a set of questions prepared like guess the babys weight, etc...that we discussed. Took pictures, etc and had a good time.

Hi Paula,

Sorry this is probably too late, but I'll answer anyway.

I had a Baby Shower and loved it.

I invited people (family groups), not just the girls. In the invitations I put 2 letters (ie a cut out of the letter A and a cut out of the letter F) People were then asked in the invitation, to bring a finger food beginning with one letter and a dessert beginning with the othe letter. (ie Avocado sandwiches and fairy floss OR frankfurts and almond cake)

It was a bit of fun and we had heaps of food! People got REALLY creative and started to skew their letters. A conversation point..."what letter did you get to bring that???"

I stuck up a poster and people wrote what date and time they thought I would pop (and their name). I put that in my scrapbooking stuff later - nice keep sake!

We also played a game where people were given a string and had to work out how long the string would be when my husband and I were hugging. That was fun because first people would measure themselves hugging their wife/husband and then add a bit for the baby bump.

Low key, but lots of fun!
