Vaginal discharge in 4y/o Rss

DD1 is 4 in november. She gets red around the ouside of her vagina and grabs herself a lot. Sometimes she says it hurts. It's been happening for years on and off. I've taken her to the Drs a few times and have checked for UTI's, thrush etc but it's been all clear.

I've also gone over wiping properly after going to the toilet with her again and i've seen her do it, she's doing it well. She'll go to the toilet and more often than not come out and go back in again to wipe or grab herself saying it's dripping.

Now she's getting vaginal discharge. Yellowy in colour.

I'm not sure if this is normal but don't want to take her to the Dr if it is. We kind of live there between the two girls tongue

Can anyone tell me if it's normal or if it's not, what could be causing it please? Thank you!

My DD is the same. She'll be 4 in Jan. Every now and then she tells me her bottom is sore - sometimes it's hard for her to distinguish between the front and back. I've gone through worming, etc but I think she's like her mother and will be prone to thrush. When she has these episodes I just put some canestan on her vag (I try and spuash it in and up a bit - tmi lol) for at least 3 nights in a row. That usually fixes it smile You're doing all the right things by wiping front to back, etc. Good luck!

I've sent you a pm.

Hi

I had my DD whose 4 at the Dr yesterday for this exact same thing, Dr did a swab test and said results would be back in a week, also took a urine sample for UTI. My DD has also had this on and off for a long time, will occasionally complain it hurts when she wees and scratches at herself and says its itchy but up until this time never had a discharge so that's what led us to the Dr.

Dr didnt seem to think it was an infection but is testing regardless, she said steer clear of any soaps or bubble baths and also be aware that sometimes they stick things inside them like small toys, beads.. she said you'd be suprised what I've found over the years - and if they do this it can lead to an infection.

My DD is not the best wiper, she sometimes jumps off and forgets and then I'll send her back and often there's drips of wee on the toilet seat... I think this can cause the redness and irritation. If they dont wipe poos properly this can lead to irritation and potentially infections which could lead to a discharge.

They can also get infections from rubbing themselves if their hands are dirty and can cause the area to become red and irritated.
Have a look here, useful info on potential causes:

Thanks everyone smile

We use the natural type washing powder etc and it seemed to go away eventually but it's back again. We don't use bubble bath and I use the same bath wash on DD1 that I use on DD2 (1 y/o tomorrow) so it's baby wash. I really can't think of anything else I can do. I'm going to check her underwear and see what it is. Isn't cotton the most breathable? What do you stay clear of?

stay clear of polyester underwear. If you can, swap to all cotton undies.

Excellent! Thanks smile

Once the kids go to bed my night will be full of putting the inserts into my MCNs and going through DD2's undies! The life of a mum hey! tongue
