Hi all,

We are about to have our second baby- she is a surprise baby, it took 18 months and fertility treatment to have our son and was told that we would need fertility treatment for all our children- When our little man was 5 and half months old we found out that we are expecting again. We are a few weeks out from having our little girl and I am worried how our little man will handle the new baby and having to share us?

Just wondering how everyone else has gone with this?

Hi. Firstly congrats on your little miracle babies!

I was a little worried about how DD1 would go as well as she was such a mummy's girl, couldn't hold other babies- just the usual stuff! Anyways, it seems there is just something about it being their OWN brother or sister that makes them more accepting. My sister experienced the same thing.
We just made sure DD1 was always involved, she was given a present from the new baby at the hospital. I think the main thing is just being conscious of not leaving the older one out.
I find it more draining now! They are both needy, jealous little divas, but also, have the most fun with each other. Much more fun than they can have with mum or dad.

As long ass you include the older child they seem to accept it quite easily. With my boys who are 21 months appart i found that if i let ds1 help do things like hold the nappy while you were taking the dirty one off and giving him a facewasher to wash bubs belly while bathing he was quite happy and acepting of his new brother

i was told like you that i would not be able to have kids without the drugs ,i lost my first then tried again got my twins then 6 month later a surprise we found out another was on its way 2 months of shock i couldnt believe it .Well the first day of meeting her the boys were not happy with me it took a few days but they are now great with her . One of my boys dont like sharing anything with his brother but is so loving with the girl.
