A question for all the renters
If you put a hole in your wall would you call the real estate and tell them or would you just fix it up without telling them? DH bumped the toilet roll holder and it pushed back a little into the wall. He thinks we should just fix it without telling them but I don't think it's the right thing to do.
That must have been a rough bog.
You have to tell them at some stage as even if you fix it youll not have the paint to hide it. So, by your next inspection.

laugh Dh was watching some cartoon with the kids and they were playing games then he went to the loo. Then he jumped out to scare DD or something. I have no idea how he managed it laugh
Is it something that they can kick us out for?

No. Accidents happen Chonnie. But you maybe (or maybe not) have to pay a few dollars towards it being puttied and spot repainted. It really shouldnt be a big deal.

I doubt it, it sounds like only a small hole and if you are honest about it then there should be no problems.
My dad once threw a chair and it hit the wall and made a big hole... and we lived in that house for a long time.
hi,
no god no they cant kick u out for that! that is why they have insurance and plus not as if you burnt the house down!
Call them in the morning let them know of it and also let them know that your DH can fix it they may agree. it doesnt really sound that bad.
I am a renter but i rent Privately and my landlords are cool. But i really dont think you will have a problem!
All the best

Thats a relief laugh Thats what I was worried about. We've only just moved in and don't want to move again any time soon. I don't mind paying for it. I was thinking about getting the number of the person that they use. Then at least that way they know it's getting done properly. Would they need to see it first?

In my flatting years I lived with a guy who once punched a hole in the wall (psycho!) he fixed it himself with this closely woven wire mesh and putty kit you can get and managed to get paint to match so you couldn't even tell. Was a good half days work though cause had to sand it as well.
I think I would fess up though, easier that way probably! I don't think it would even be that much cheaper to fix it yourself.
I don't think they would be dark about it, accidents happen and they would appreciate you being straight with them smile I know my landlords would want to see it first though to asses what kind of repair was needed.

Yikes, I would be stressing big time if it was a big hole. I would like this one to be our only hole in this house!

Yeah thats what I said to DH. When you walk into the toilet it's the first wall you see so it would need to be perfect otherwise they'd notice. Less stressful to just pay someone else to do it.

I'd get it fixed and prob tell the landlords/real estate by the next house inspection. I wouldn't worry about it though as it happens pretty often and if you get it fixed it shouldn't be a big deal. Good luck!

My Dh did something similar with a toilet roll holder in a house we were renting last year. It got caught on his pocket and he pulled it out of the wall. There was some paint in the house already so he fixed it himself and you couldnt even tell. From memory it only cost a few dollars for putty and sand paper. Also once the toilet paper is back on the roll you don't see it anyway.
I say if your DH is handy let him do it but if he isnt get someone in.
You won't get evicted for it, it was an accident.

DH is handy but not that handy laugh The toilet roll doesn't cover it up sad

I did something similar once ... if you go to bunnings they sell repair kits. so the putty, scraper thing and the meshy stuff to go over it. then u just sand it back and paint it.
We ended up with a hole in the wall of a previous house we were renting about 3 years ago and one of our mates is a plaster boarder so we just got him to fix it.
We didn't tell the RE although if it happened now I definitely would. I'd feel too guilty otherwise!

Lmao. We were renting until a couple of months ago.
I put a rather large hole in the plasterboard when trying to take down one of those 'will not mark the wall' picture hook thingys. Spewing.
We patched it up with spakfiller (hubbys fave handyman thing ever!!) and painted it over. They never even noticed it but complained that the blinds weren't clean enough!!
HATE ALL REAL ESTATES SOOOOO BAD.

We had a few various holes in the walls when we moved out of our rental. We patched them all and took a paint sample to bunnings and tried to match it. The paint did not match perfectly so that wasn't great but they never mentioned anything and were happy to return our bond. I didn't say anything because we really needed the bond and I thought we might pull it off. I think the house was due for a paint anyway but still we were very lucky.
These things happen, I think if it had just been one hole I might have just repaired it and then told them but there were too many and I didn't want them scouring all the walls and pulling us up on every little thing so I tried to pull it off.

I wouldnt tell them, I would just fix it. It really isnt a biggie. Would you tell them if you ripped a hole in the flyscreen or would you just fix it? Is it a newish house? they may have matching paint lying around or the paint colours in the meter box. We had many chips in a house we once rented and just patched them on departure.

If it was a hole in the flyscreen then yes I would just fix it. Thats something that they wouldn't notice anyway but I think a patched hole is easier to see. Especially where the hole is. Already had a look in the shed for paint pots laugh

I wish you were our tenants - it's great that you actually care!
Personally as a landlord I don't want to know. I just want it repaired properly is my only concern.
Good luck!
