Im being tested for PCOS Rss

I was wondering if there was anyone out there being tested for PCOS,
I've done 2 tests already and got another one coming up. worried about what they will find!!
i wouldnt be too concerned, it mostly controlled by being on the pill if you do have it.

i found out last year after having a miscarraige that i had PCOS and they told me i would have issues getting pregnant again - 3 months later we concieved again this time a so far healthy baby.

one of my best friends also has PCOS and has fallen pregnant twice completely by accident, i would try not to let it worry you too much if you have it its easily controlled.

Pcos can come in different "levels" because it is a syndrome not a disease. So some women will only have weight issues, irregular periods and maybe excess hair in some places. But the list of complaints is long and generally the more symptoms you have the more your fertility is effected. For myself it took a little over a year to conceive both my babies, I know there are women who try for years and years.

The good news is that it is manageable. Hormone replacements, weight loss and minor surgeries can be used to bring it into check.
The good news is that most women find that during pregnancy and a few months after birth it tends to really settle down. That is the hormones even out reducing the symptoms.

Your doc will be able to help you chose a method suited to you to manage your personal situation.

Good luck!!

I'm sure I was never tested lol, they found an irregularity on an ultrasound when I was 15 and that combined with a very long list of period based symptoms (some were only loosely based) the gyno just told me I had it and could experience 'some' difficulty conceiving when it came time to have children, it certainly wasn't first cycle (it could have been with DS can't remember) but within 3mths both times I was UTD so I wouldn't worry to much smile

Hey mimsey

I've had blood tests, and internal.ultrasounds. I dont know if there are other tests too.

As I understand/remember it (Iam in health care - although this is not really my area)
Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is diagnosed if you have irregular cycle, backed up with irregular hormone levels determined over a series of blood tests and an ultasound that shows polycytis ovaries.

If the bloods or the ultrasounds are negative it is termed Polycysic Ovarian Syndrome(PCOS.)

Either or both my also be asociate with insulin resistance, increased body weight, increased body hair etc

I was diagnosed with PCOD (although I've never had the weight issues)

I have concieved twice - 1st go each time, although I know this is not everyone's experience as it is a very vairable condition and I do not think they can accuratley predict possible infertility or difficulties with conception.

I hope this helps
Thank you for all the comments, I'm lucky to have a baby but it did take a while for her to be concived.
periods havent been regular for a long time, at the moment i will go 3 mths with out it. dont get me wrong i dont miss it, i just know that this is not right. have had a blood test and a ultra sound, and off again soon for another ultra sound.
Duckie.M.B whats a endocrinologist? how did you get to see one?

Duckie

Have you ever been offered primolut N? Or an increased dose of metformin?

Primolut N is what helped me conceive this time. It is a contraceptive pill but you take it differently so that it helps your hormone balance but doesn't stop ovulation. My specialist said to me "if your ovulatilating then im a monkeys uncle" when he saw me second time. I had my left ovary twice the size of my right, huge cysts that were causing pain when they burst, totally uncontrollable weight and no period for seven months. Second cycle of primolut n I was pregnant. smile

I was given the option to increase metformin but couldn't stand the nausea and head aches while looking after dd.
