Yep that's right. I saw a bit of it this morning on ABC. It helps their sleep pattern apparently and the benefits don't really go til the. Child is 6-7. Quite interesting really.

I just watched a bit on it on the project and they really emphasized your bub needs to be at least 6 months old before trying this. Here's an article I found about it all http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/sleep-techni...

I read an article about it this morning and saw a thing on The Project about it.
It basically said there was a new study that found that babies that had been put to sleep with controlled crying were not shown to have any problems from it when they were 6 years old. Its the first study where long term affects have been looked into with controlled crying. The mental state and behaviour was apparantly no different in children that were and were not subjected to controlled crying when they were babies. But yes its only for 6 months and older.
It was also not recommended by The Australian Breastfeeding Association.
Great thanks girls smile

we saw it, hubby said there should be more of it, worked for us

mum of 3 boys aged 10, 11 and 13

Great! Another study to give parents a reason to think it's okay to ignore their babies angry

+ 1 I find it sad when people think letting them self settle is igoring them and being mean I think its great when used approriatley.Works for us and bubs barely crys I've only recently started doing this great with day naps and bed time smile.

I saw the bit on the project and yes they said the study showed no long term problems & also showed that the babies who had been through controlled crying actually showed better sleep routines & behaviour & parents were happier & more patient with other bub related issues due to getting more sleep themselves & being able to organise themselves around bubs now regular sleep routine.
I was really happy to hear about it. My 12 mo doesn't self settle, won't settle in anyone's arms & has to be in a rocket til falls asleep (which he's now too big for). I've never had anything against people using controlled crying but just wasn't sure about it & how it could effect ds later. So this has put my mind at ease a bit & will give it a try as long as he doesn't get hysterical!

My only problem is that he always stands up in his cot when he's awake. Anyone got any ideas to stop this?
He can be so settled his eyes are closed when I put him in & then will still open them, squirm a bit, then stand up & cry to get out. He has a musical mobile, it doesnt help. Should I just assume he will get over it & lie back down?
Sorry to hijack, any help appreciated!
