4yr old bed time Rss

My 4 yr old son plays up when it comes to bed time its a struggle to get him to bed at a set time once his asleep he is a great sleeper but its getting there. iv tried the whole warning its nearly bed time, reading stories ect. I cant let him cry or scream as i still live at home and my dad has to get up at 2 am for wok so goes bed early.
He can be on the go all day and it not make a difference he will just keep going and not drop.
I just feel drained and run out of idea's.

My son is three and is usually pretty good with bedtime, but most of the time I have to lie in bed next to him and sing a few songs, etc. I can be in the bed with him for up to an hour sometimes, but at least it's quiet time with the light off. Also, I bought him a cute little torch in the shape of a cow that he plays with before falling asleep. Give him a little something to play with and show extra love and affection, rather than showing that you're feeling irritable or overwhelmed. Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you!
I've started putting my kids to be a little bit earlier than usual & putting on their DVD players. They lie there quitely & get all cosy, then I'll go back in 1/2hr & switch them off. They go to sleep pretty fast after that, just give them some wind down time by themselves.

I was reading to them but now that they have seperate rooms they would just jump around & go crazy. This is currently working for me. My almost 4 year old will often turn her's off before I do & come get me to sit with her, 5mins later she's asleep!
DD is 3 3/4, we had our problems when she was younger but she goes down well now. We read a story and leave it in bed with her for her to read again by helself. We also have an electronic game she is allowed to play in bed. She rarely plays for more than 5 or so minutes before she settles herself. We leave her bedside light on until she is asleep.

Friends of ours let their daughter watch a dvd on a portable player, she falls asleep quickly to.

good luck
