Hi,
We're moving to Albany from Chch, NZ at the end of April. I have a 12 week old and a 2 1/2 year old. Any tips on suburbs etc would be very much appreciated

I Know these two suburbs which are great ones:

Bayonet Head (where I live, gorgeous!)and Middleton Beach...both areas surrounded by the beach or beach views other than that most areas seem to have some iffy parts id pretty much stay away from spencer park. I have only been here since April so thats all I know at the moment. Some others may be able to help you out.

Thank you, I had read elsewhere the same thing about Bayonet Head and Spencer Park. what is wrong with Spencer Park exactly? I would really like a view as Chch is really flat

There is alot of dero people there a few weeks back some people had a fight in the street some where in the area I heard. Id steer clear I have asked lots of ppl and everyone here goes ohhhhh when u say spencer park it seems to be a horrible area.

I live on the top of the hill in bayonet head, it has a awesome view of middleton beach and emu point.... ohh that might be a nice area too Emu point. I was told recently that bayonet head is seen as the snobbier suburb ...which means its good lol, but i dont think anyone here is snobby they are all lovely the neighbours here will do anything for u I havent really experienced that before:D people are extremely friendly here I have found and I love it so much I dont miss Perth one bit when we go to perth from time to time I just cant wait to get back home to Albany I love it so much here.

Is there alot of Dero people in general in Albany? I found a few places in Bayonet Head I like the look of. Any other tips on Albany?

Well there is alot of retirees really i think alot of people move here once they retire. I dont know any Dero people I think that Denmark is abit of a weird town its like 50mins away from albany tho.
Hmm I think that Albany is a lovely Family place, there is good and bad where ever you go, but I do feel really safe here as the crime rate is really low.

We got offered Denmark and seemed like a tiny hippy town to me. So excited now just have 4 weeks to get everything organised. It actually seems alot like Nelson here in NZ

When r u moving u said april, I thought that would be next yr! as april has been and gone it is almost august!

About 3 or so, 2 or 3 woolies ...they r planning another one. 1 Coles which we always go to. There is a kmart, target, lots of jewellery stores and different clothing stores at different shopping centre there is like supre and diva and all that there is a bit down here for a small town and they have alot of little once off shops down in the town centre and stuff like boutiques and stuff. Betts, Rivers, Susan hmmm lots hey.

How big are the IGAs? Is there Pumpkin patch and McDonalds? Soory for all these questions I'm sure theyre annoying but just stuff I cant google for an easy answer

No pumpkin patch yes mcdonalds, hjs, kfc, red rooster, chicken treat, dominos, eagle boys, subway and lots more awsome dinning out eats aswell I HIGHLY recommend rustlers it is awesome there its like a steakhouse but more upmarket but still can go dressy casual we take bubz too as we eat earlier and there isnt much of a crowd there usually at 5:30 when they open for dinner.... but awesome sized meals and the staff r so friendly and love our bubz! grin

Are there many private rentals available? do you know anywhere I can check for them? I think the IGA my partner is going to may be Spencer park or down near the port, I'm getting confused by the maps

HMM There maybe private rentals im not sure! We dont rent.

I could ask a friend of mine wen I see her on thurs she rents privately Im sure.

I was born and bred in Albany and have only moved away a couple of years ago, Private rentals are always in the local rags. Spencer park and mount lockyer are probly the most dodgy area's but then there are nice houses and that there i guess you just got to check out the neighbours. Albany is awesome i wich i could move back there. Great place to raise kids, so many nice beaches and great place to explore if you have 4wd.

Yeah it is pretty much town, not far from the beach either which is good.
