WA ladies need some advice!! Rss

Hi ladies, dh is keen to get over to wa for his work, lots in his field available some he can do FIFO from nsw others would only fly him back to Perth.

So we want to look at all our options and whether $$$ it would be worth the move over there. What are some decent suburbs in Perth and what are the 'wouldn't let my dog walk down the street' suburbs?

Thanks in advance smile

suburbs that I wouldn't let my dog walk in are Armadale and surrounding subs (these are south of the river)
cannington again surrounding suburbs
north of the river balga and surrounding
quinns rocks and surrounding
Claremont (not sure what side)

good places
oakford/byford
kalamunda
the vines
yanchep
mindarie

hope this helps

Thanks for that!! Very helpful! I've never been to Perth so it will be a big decision to make!!

We live in Harrisdale which is a new suburb south of the river and love it. My DH does FIFO so I'm on my own alot (no kids...yet wink) and I feel completely safe here. We don't have a dog as despite my begging DH says no (oh well...baby it is then I say) but if we had one I would absolutely walk it down the street. There's lots of young families around (and dogs) so others must agree with me...haha. Piara Waters and Southern River are close by and and are also newer areas (or at least have new estates). Hope this helps. I'm biased but I love Perth.

I agree with PP. Harrisdale, Southern River and Piara Waters are lovely South of the River places to live. Lots of up-and-coming development, lots of young families, lots of good schools both public and private, nice shops etc...
Good places:
Ellenbrook - lots of new houses, schools, shops etc
Hillarys, Padbury, Duncraig area - not new but still good suburbs
Madeley - gorgeous suburb but very $$$

Places I wouldn't live:
Queens Park, Cannington areas
Bassendean
Balga
Depends on $$ you have available. Most of the western suburbs are lovely but very $$. Doubleview, city beach, cottesloe. They're beach suburbs so you'd expect them to be expensive. Someone mentioned claremont as being no good? Not sure if they've come across some dodgey streets, but it actually a very old, expensive suburb, I'd love a place there if I wanted to live in the city again smile
Cheaper, family friendly suburbs - hillarys, mullaloo, woodvale, Kingsley, sth duncraig, gwelup, carine, sorrento, nth beach, churchlands, woodlands, floreat.
I wouldn't live in any of the south eastern suburbs personally (gosnells, southern river, canningvale, byford, cannington, Bertram, riverton, forrestfield)
I am from Perth even though I am not living there at the moment. I agree with all of the not so good suburbs that have been mentioned.

For the good suburbs, some more for you to consider are:

Rossmoyne
Shelley
Riverton
Willetton
Bateman
Booragoon
Leeming
Meville
Applecross

If you can, get a house in the Rossmoyne High School Zone. This public high school always does very well with its scores/results. It even has overseas students moving into the area to attend the school. The primary schools also do very well.
We used to live in Perth before we moved to Melbourne.

We LOVED it there,

Suburbs I reccomemnd
Atwell, Success, Hammond Park, Aubin Grove.
Pretty newish suburbs south of the river and we used to take our DD for walks everyday! Was such an awesome area to live in, unfortunately we had to re locate for DFs work.

Other good suburbs to consider:

Wembley
Jolimont
Wembley Downs
Scarbourough
Mt Hawthorn
Leederville
Joondanna
Highgate
Mt Lawley
Subiaco.

I used to live in the Mosman Park/Cottesloe area and loved it, though it is super expensive. Swanbourne, Mt Claremont, Claremont, Nedlands, Dalkieth are also extremely nice.

I don't understand why people would say that they don't feel safe in Claremont?

Places I would stay away from:

Balga, Westminster, Nollarmara, Mirrabooka, anywhere in that area.
Armadale, anywhere in that area.
Rockingham.
Most of Mandurah.
Cannington/Lynwood/Parkwood area.

"The hills" can be very nice (roleystone, kalamunda, lesmurdie areas) but parts of it can also be really, really dodgy. So I would stay away as the nice parts are absurdly expensive, its no where near central and there are some not so nice parts.

The plus with the hills area is that you can live in a nice area and still be reasonably close drive to the airport which is probably a consideration if your dh does FIFO. Most of the hills suburbs are nice and really the only eastern suburbs worth considering IMO.
