Hi, I know this won't help everyone, but if your little one is over a year old and on normal milk now then I highly recommend trying them on Lactose Free milk. My son had horrid nappy rash and a friend told me that alot of babies have a reaction to the lactose in milk (not an allergy, more like an intolerance until they are older). And literally since the day we changed he hasn't had one single case of nappy rash.
You buy it in the long-life milk aisle.
Good luck.

Bepanthen is the best and helpful!
Zinc doesnt work!

my neighbours had ruin out of Huggies nappies so she went to supermarket to grab more (treasures) for now till she have more time to get huggies. so one night, she put trasures nappy on her daughter...then next morning found really bad rash on daughter's bum! terrible!! i adviced her to use Bepanthen so now it works and daugther's bum is look much better. She refused to buy treasures nappies ever again.

My DD had the most horrible rash also and I was advised by the pharmacist to try Daktozin but also use Dermaid (the lowest strength, pink). You put the Dermaid on first and then put the Daktozin on over the top. Worked a treat and though I have been lucky this time around with my little man, I always have those two creams in the cupboard just in case.
Hope it clears up soon because the poor little things get so upset when it is so red and sore!!!

I tried heaps of different creams and powders but I found pawpaw cream worked best. I would also agree that avoiding using wipes seems to help - the wipes often have alcohol in them. If you don't want to wash a lot of dirty face washers (or for when your out if you don't want to carry a heap of wet washers home) I found that paper kitchen towels that advertise that you can use them wet work really well - just dampen them with tap water.

I've been told by some people that they've had a lot of success with generic brand cornflour - its way cheaper than baby powder and is what most of the baby powders are made of anyway. It didn't work for my baby but would be worth a try.

Good luck - I know it can be hard. I had a very unhelpful clinic nurse tear into me about my little ones rash and none of her suggestions (including the medicated creams) worked at all. In the end it was lots of time without a nappy and pawpaw cream when he did have to wear a nappy that did the trick.

My 10 month old also has terrible nappy rash at the moment, I'm a bit at a loss as to which of all these helpful suggestions to try first! One thing to add - I have read that cornstarch / talcum powder can make nappy rash worse if it is a fungal rash - so worth finding out from the Doc if it is fungal before using this treatment.

Hi There, our son went through the same thing with his first top teeth, (red raw bottom with the wee dots) I tried a lot of things but found corn flour to be great for instantly drying his bottom (a bit messy but benifits out weighed that).
My approach next time will be lots and lots of nappie-off time, using my baby-cheeks nappies (I think they are softer than disposables), cornflour, sudocream, MiH Creme (prescription cream for fungal)and using muslin cloths with water only to clean bottom.
I also found that once I was onto the right thing it cleared up very quickly.
hope this helps you!

We discovered early on that Wipes alone were never good for our now-22mth DD.
Our nappy change routine is to clean with Huggies Wipes, then wipe away the alcohol of the Wipes with a wet face-towel, then dry with a dry towel, then spread a thin layer of Bepanthen.

Maybe once every 3-6 months she may get a rash developing but we nip it in the bud by smothering with fresh aloe vera gel (grandma grows them and we were given one in a pot in our yard) followed by a thick coating of Bepanthen. The Bepanthen finds it hard to stay on the skin due to the slimy aloe gel but we do it anyway.

The aloe vera is a miracle natural product.. a red bum smothered with the gel overnight is clear or clearing the next morning. We just use Bepanthen for all nappy changes for our own peace of mind.

[Hi, make sure your baby is using Huggies nappies, I found this is the best nappies around and Sudocream clears up my boys nappy rash with hours and the cream is good for eczema as well.

Cornflour in every nappy change, paw paw cream or aloe vera (straight from the plant) on nappy rash and sudocream if it's a nasty rash.

I have used sudocream in a grey container. I used it on all 3 of my children and would not use anything else as nothing else worked

I have ZSC Powder. I got it when my then 15-month old had really bad prickly heat. It worked and I have been using it on her nappy rash. She only gets bad nappy rash when she is teething. It is from the chemist. Unsure how much it cost.

Without a doubt, the best Nappy Rash treatment is Booty Balm by Myrtle & Tuppence (www.myrtleandtuppence.com.au). Clears up the rash within 48 hours and takes the sting out of it within a couple of hours. I have said this on many occassions on this site: These people make the most amazing NATURAL & ORGANIC products you will ever find. I used nearly every single one of their products. Also try the Itchy Scratchy Oil for Eczema!!!

Nappy rash occurs for different reasons. Thats why you need to find out what type of nappy rash it is, so you know what cream will work. Everyone obviously has a fav - but that may be because they tried others that were inappropriate for the nappy rash. On somebody else, that same cream may work the best. You can go to the dr or chemist to see what they think. In the meantime use some kind of barrier cream.
Once you are on top of it, try and find out the cause. Nappy rash doesn't automatically happen - there has to be a reason. dietry, reactions to the nappy material, even some nappy rash creams can cause nappy rash if it isn't suited to that particular rash.
