I would like clarification on the cut off age for women receiving IVF in Australia. I read in an IVF booklet that it’s 51, an IVF doctor recently informed me it was when I ceased menstruating, and a nurse at an IVF information session stated that there wasn’t one. Are any of these correct, or is it dependent on the place you go to for the service?

Hi, I dont really know the answer or if there is one, but I think it may be different at different clinic's.I would say, if you have good eggs then it is possible. I gave birth to my DS at 43 after two years of IVF. Good luck.

Carolyn, thanks. I'm seeing the new specialist on Wed. I'll see what they have to say. I’m closer to 51 than 43. My chances of conceiving are in the realm of impossibility, but I haven’t given up. How long did you wait between cycles? My ovaries only responded to the first cycle resulting in one egg that made it to a 4cell embyro. The following 3, after 3mth intervals, did not respond at all.

Hi Nim,
Due to my age, I did not wait long in between cycles, although I did manage to get some frozens. However my last cycle that resulted in my DS, was just the one egg that survived and it was the one.I hope you get some answers from your new specialist, good luck let me know how you go.
