I have a baby of 3 months and he is suffering from fever. Fever in a child is normal because of season change. Keep in mind that a child’s temperature rises in the late afternoon and early evening and falls between midnight and early morning and it’s natural. So, always keep medicine for fever.

If you breast feed I was told by a child health nurse to eat pro - biotic based drinks / yoghurt as the healthy bacteria in it will be passed onto your baby via your milk. It certainly worked for me!

My babies are 4 months and haven't been sick yet, but I do remember how unsure we were with our now 3 year olds when they were babies - my tips are:

* Vapourisers for congestion & dry coughs (but make sure you let anyone in in the house know that it's on and where it is otherwise they can get a steam burn if they get too close to it - up high worked best for us)

* Euky bear rub is good for their chests if they are older babies or you can dab it on their sheets/clothes if they are younger or have sensitive skin

* Think of what you do when you're in pain..... eg. when I'm in pain I take medicine to feel better, so don't hesitate to take the pain away when it comes to children.. ie. give them panadol!

* For teething, bonjella didn't work as well for my kids as other brands (Chemist's own brand was very good and not as strong a taste as bonjella).

* When panadol/nurofen doesn't work and especially for night time so that they can get some relief, we keep a bottle of Painstop Nighttime on hand... I think it's for 1 & over though.... but it works straight away.

* Pinetarsol is good for itchy rashes, so is an oat filled sock in the bath water

* Give plenty of fluids and allow for plenty of rest

My number one tip - cuddles, cuddles, cuddles!

I am completely agree with the handy tips as, I am not a mother yet but, planning to have a baby next year and for that I am updating myself with all essential necessities, required in terms of proper caring.

here is my advice as a mum.... which my mum passed to me.... if you are questioning wether you should take your child to the doctor or not that is the answer,,,, the moment you are thinking should i or shouldn't i you should go as doctors would rather see healthy babies than very ill babies.

Well my twin two and a half year old have just gone through ear and throat infections. I was rubbing vicks balsm on their chests to help them breath better at night. Obviously panadol to keep temperature at bay. In my case I had to get some antibiotics to fight throat infection. Make sure baby keeps up with fluids weather it be baby juice, water or milk (although drs advice not to give alot of milk when sick as builds up the mucous more). Elevate cot by putting something under the legs of it to raise it slightly. Flannels on the forehead not too cold or hot helped keep the temperature down with my boys. Obviously if not better within 2-3 days have bubs checked out by a GP.
