My daughter (Jasmine) is now 22 months old and gets bored when i read her the story in a book. The first few pages are fine but then she wants to flip the pages. I have bought books with bright pictures and a very short story, and she still just wants to flip through it. But i have noticed she turns to the page that we tend to have fun on, like counting the babies or butterflies. Should i worry that she does not want to listen to the story, and just stick with my made up version or should i be teaching her to sit still and listen? I have been reading to her since she was born. We buy books on a regular basis to keep things interesting. Her comunication is getting bigger and better by the day. Am i worried about nothing? Thank you Jenni
I don`t think there`s anything to worry about at this stage. It sounds like you`re actively encouraging a love of reading and she`s taking an interest in books so that`s just perfect! Don`t stop trying to introduce narrative, but be careful not to push too hard. A reading session should always be about having fun – you don`t want to put her off! If she`s not showing interest in the stories just yet, give it time. She WILL pick it up eventually!
