What are the chances of delivering naturally considering my history?

Hi Alex
I am eight weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy and am wondering what you think the chances may be of delivering naturally considering my pregnancy history. I am an insulin dependent diabetic, well controlled with an HbA1c of 6.0% (mid-May testing). In the last pregnancy (baby is now 11 months) I developed moderate pelvic instability, had a medically necessary elective CS as baby was breech and had pre-eclampsia. I had an immediate post partum hike in my pre-eclampsia condition (sky rocketting blood pressure) and spent 24 hours in a darkened room with a couple of drips (mag sulfate and something else) with a special care nurse in the corner watching over me just in case. Altogether not the best of experiences but I do have a beautiful baby boy now so I guess it`s okay. I`d dearly love to have a natural birth but do you think it`s likely that my Ob (who I will see for the first time on Monday) will shy away from a VBAC?
This realise that this may not be a straight forward question but appreciate your thoughts.

Answer: Hi Catherine,
While you are at an increase risk of having complications during pregnancy again it is not a definite indication of a caesarean birth. If the baby is head down and your diabetes is well controlled and you do not develop severe pre eclampsia you have a good chance of experiencing a natural birth.
Best wishes,
Alex
