I developed post-eclampsia. What`s the safest method of delivery for me this time?

Hi Alex
I am nearly 33 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I had a c-section with my 1st baby due to him being breech and quite big. I developed post-eclampsia and became very ill after his birth, and now with the forthcoming birth of my 2nd baby, I am unsure whether to try a VBAC or not `risk` it and have another c-section

I guess my question is in your opinion what would be the safest method of delivery for me??? And, if I choose a VBAC what happens if my blood pressure rises during this time?? I also heard that if my blood pressure does rise during a c-section, it is much easier to deliver medication immediately...is this true??

Alex ...
Answer: Hi,
Thank you for your enquiry. Women who experience high blood pressure and minor pre-eclampsia often experience quick labours so do well with a vaginal birth. I believe that it is always best for the mother and baby to try for a natural birth unless there are severe problems that require a more urgent birth. Your body is designed to have a vaginal birth and the baby copes better if you are able to labour. Blood pressure is monitored in all women during labour and if there are signs that it may be rising treatment can be given in either circumstance.
Best wishes,
Alex
