I have had 2 boys, the first one by forceps delivery and the second by emegency c-section. Both times the labour has progressed normally until 5cm dilation at which point suddenly I have needed to start pushing and the babies heart rates have dropped dramatically. This has made the last 5cm dilation happen within minutes. As I am pregnant again my obstetrician has agreed to a trial of labour, but warned me to be prepared for another c-section just in case. I am wondering if I would be better or worse off if I have an epidural during the labour, or would this make it harder for me to deliver vaginally?
You may also want to look at some alternative positions or to walk more during the labour so that the pushing sensation is reduced. Warm baths can also help. An epidural may help but they do increase the chances of intervention, such as forceps or caesarean.
