Wonky Donkey

Wonky Donkey

I was walking down the road, and I saw a donkey…hee-haw! And he only had three legs. He was a wonky donkey…

So begins this very very funny tale, each page telling us something new about this cranky, lanky, winky wonky donkey. The first time I read this book I was home on a rainy with my very cranky then 9 month old, let’s call him Turtle (nicknamed so at the first ultrasound). It had been raining for a few days and we were both getting a little stir crazy. This book made me laugh out loud over and over again! Turtle is starting to appreciate it a little more and has started studying the pages instead of watching his crazy mother in amazement as I try and mimic a donkey’s Hee Haw!

Craig Smith’s The Wonky Donkey started life as a country/folk song which was awarded APRA’s 2008 Children’s Song of the Year. You can judge the song for itself on the included CD, but the story of our Wonky Donkey is delightfully endearing and stands up in book form as a rib-tickling read-aloud tale.

It has deservedly made it into the Get Reading! 50 Books You Can’t Put Down this year and if you buy a copy of The Wonky Donkey during September from Huggies Bookclub you also get a free Morris Gleiztman book, Tickled Onions!

Have you read this book with your little one? Did they enjoy it as much as you?

PS: Wonkey Donkey fans keep an eye out for our upcoming Huggies colouring competition! More details soon.
