I wonder if a medical check is warranted, just to rule out any underlying physical cause for his vomiting. But it is more than likely to be behavioural, if he can do it at will and if he’s otherwise well and healthy. Some kids do have a hypersensitive gag reflex and are able to regurgitate their stomach contents very easily. They do learn that this (of course) gets them lots of lovely attention, particularly at sleep and meal times. Some kids as well, don’t tolerate lumpy or textured foods and gag when they have anything other than lumps. But unless they have a physical condition which is causing them to gag or issues with their swallowing, it’s very important to perservere with increasing textures and of course, gentle guidance when it comes to discipline. Though at 12 months I do wonder how much “telling off” he needs". He’s still so little and his brain is incapable of knowing right from wrong.
I think a chat and review with your GP would be useful and also a talk with your child health nurse, who would be able to give you some additional guidance about managing his behaviour.
