Is it OK for me to drink Dr Red`s Spearole Tea whilst breastfeeding?

Hi Leanne, I`m breastfeeding my 4 month old baby - is it OK for me to drink Dr Red`s Spearole Tea? (contains green tea 91%, olive leaf, oil of spearmint, grape skins, grade seeds, spearmint sprouts) Thanks Tracy

Leann...
Answer: Hi Tracy, well that`s a good question. To be honest I would err on the side of caution. My top concern would be the green tea as it can strongly bind to iron and its important that you regain your lost stores of iron. Also the green tea is a diuretic (and your fluid balance is very important). There are of course many compounds found in herbs that can cross into milk or affect your milk supply (especially if they are concentrated). I believe there is some concerns about the mint family that it can reduce milk supply, but that`s unclear. Personally, I would hold off, but to be sure I would chat to your GP about any potential interactions. Perhaps just a small green tea as drink once a day, away from food, and up your fruit and vegetables to increase your access to plant compounds... All the best, Leanne
