Can I change her from normal formula to one of the toddler milks?
My daughter is just over 12mths. She has always been small (5ib 14oz born). I breast fed her until 10mths. She is currently 7.5kg. We are trying to get her weight up. Can I change her from normal formula to one of the toddler milks for her daily bottles? (She has 3 a day at the moment) And will this make a difference?
Yes, certainly if you are continuing with formula you could swap over to a toddler formula. You may also find that moving onto smoothies over straight formula is a way of helping your toddler gain weight and also rely more on foods over liquids.
You could blend yoghurt, fruit and even ground nuts and seeds (seed powder) into her formula and offer it as a drink (in a sipper cup). The protein and fats may help with body mass and consequently weight gain.
Obviously some children are naturally slight, particularly if you and or your partner are slight, it can be a genetic influence.
I have a tip sheet on underweight children on my site, if you wanted to read up a little more about the options, the link is:
So I hope this help,
All the best,
