He should be drinking 200mls but I can hardly get 120mls into him

Hi Leanne,
I have a 2 month old baby and i am bottle feeding him, but i am having great trouble, he should be drinking 200mls but i can hardly get 120mls into him, i try and push it into him but he gets very upset. I am worried that he is not getting enough.
Do you have any ideas i am worried!

Answer: Hi Cara, Just how much a bub will drink is very different from one baby to the next. Ultimately your best guide is your baby; if he is happy, healthy and growing well then likely all is well. So follow his lead, especially if he is growing at the same rate as he usually does. Most bubs will take about 30 mls per kg of body weight, so the guide on the tins is really a very rough guide. Another example is in breastfeeding most babies will consume about 800 mls over 24 hours. If you find his growth rate changes, then pop into see your CHN, but if all is fine, then go with baby, don`t worry about trying to get him to take the extra. All the best, Leanne
