How much to feed him to stop his belly button from swelling?

I have a 9 month old son who was recently diagnoised with an umbilical hernia and not to worry to much. I was wandering how to know how much to feed him to stop his belly button from swelling. He is on solids and bottles i have halved the amount of bottle feeds in one dose but giving him more bottles to compensate do you have any other suggestions.

Answer: Hi Lana, Offering baby smaller but more regular meals is likely to reduce the `load` at any one meal time. The main thing to keep in mind is his nutrition, so that over the 24 hours he is still getting all that he needs, even in divided doses (for lack of better wording). As his tummy muscles improve and strengthen his abdomen will begin to protrude less, which in turn should place less pressure on his umbilicus. Until then tiny tummies, will only hold so much and without the tummy muscles to `hold everything in place` there is only so much you can do. Keep on as you are, you are definitely on the right track. All the best, Leanne
