Hi, I am a first time mum with a one week old. He hasn`t passed a stool in 2 days, but he passed around 4 each day prior to this. He has 6-8 wet nappies each day. How often should he have bowel movements? He is being breast-fed.

Answer: Hi There, Congratulations on your new bub and welcome to parenthood, its quite a job without a manual. I would imagine by the time you get this answer baby will be back on track. I believe it is common that babies digestive systems take a week or two to settle into their new nutrition. You are likely to find that baby will do a poo almost after every feed. If things haven`t changed I would pop into see your GP as there can be a few causes for what seems to be constipation (which is quite uncommon in breastfeed bubs). Fingers crossed things are fine by now. All the best, Leanne
