Nicole Kidman & Miranda Kerr, what I need to know...

Nicole Kidman & Miranda Kerr, what I need to know...

So Nicole Kidman and Miranda Kerr became proud new mamas this week which is lovely. New babies are always wonderful, and when they are healthy and born into loving homes that’s awesome too.

But celebrities do it differently don’t they? I mean in terms of their birth announcements. I’m not even going to touch on the other contentious issues that are being hotly debated in the media right now like surrogacy or natural labour vs pain relief in labour.

I understand the longing to be a mother and the lengths people will go to achieve that. Equally, I’m not into a debate about the ways people give birth. Seriously, when did birthing become a competitive sport?

But let’s take a peek at the birth announcements shall we?
Nicole Kidman (taken from her husband’s website):“Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier.”

Miranda Kerr (on her blog): “I gave birth to our beautiful little son Flynn. He weighed 9lb 12 ounces (a very healthy and big baby boy). I gave birth to him naturally; without any pain medication and it was a long, arduous and difficult labour, but Orlando was with me the whole time supporting and guiding me through it. I could not have done it without him, we are so happy and are enjoying our time together as a family. He is our little ray of sunshine. Thank you everyone for your beautiful well wishes and your lovely thoughts.”

Now I went back and had a quick look at the birth announcement we put together when Miss Medium arrived. We just put the time she arrived, her name, weight and thanked the medical staff involved.

But it got me thinking that maybe I should have jazzed it all up a little. Too late to change it now though!
What did your birth announcement include?

Mine was the same as yours, We mentioned bubs name, weight , and length and thanks the staff at the hospital, I never went into details about how my kids were born, maybe this time I will jazz it up more, lol.

I was too doped up on morphine post emergency c-section to be doing any announcing whatsoever. I think husband posted a photo and a brief announcement on facebook with just her name, time of birth etc.

Is it necessary to comment on how the baby was born in a birth notice? As much as I would laugh at the honesty of a birth announcement that read: "We would like to announce the arrival of Joe Bloggs, natural birth to a child with a massive head so terrible episiotomy, lots of morphine and Mum swearing at staff", I think it would probably frighten a lot of friends and family.
