Your teething bub and you
This has to be one of the most harrowing aspects of parenthood in my experience. The crying, the grumpiness, the misery. And that’s just mum! In all seriousness, when my children started teething it was a production every time.
I had a girlfriend and her kids sprouted their teeth with absolutely no dramas at all. One day they were all gum, and the next they had mouthfuls of tiny, sharp little teeth.
She was lucky. I know the medical view on this is that teething doesn’t cause any side effects in babies, but I’d beg to differ.
Mr Large my eldest was an early starter. He walked ridiculously early and started teething when he was just under four months old. It was painful for all involved. I could have taken out shares in a bib company for all the dribbling he did as those tiny teeth painstakingly made their way to the surface of his gums and punched their way through.
Miss Medium’s bright red cheeks were the pre cursor of her teething misery and Mr Small was just hideously grumpy. By then I’d learned I could almost guarantee a tooth popping through a few days after he’d reached his grumpiness peak.
The good thing was they loved the feel of their teeth being brushed, and even though we didn’t introduce toothpaste until they were two years old as per recommended guidelines I think they found the gentle little brushing soothing oddly enough. Bonjella helped get us over the worst days and even though they loathed teething rings, we survived.
Of course, now amber necklaces are all the rage and from what I’ve gathered they’re really helpful for a teething little one. Though as with everything I wouldn’t leave a baby unsupervised, with , well just about anything really ;)
How are you doing with your teething baby?
