I have a 9 week old baby on formula. How often should I be feeding him? At 6 weeks my child health nurse said he should be on 4 hourly feeds which I managed to do but now he/we have reverted back to 3 hourlys. Should I get him back on 4 hourly feeds? He has a cold at the moment so feeding on demand just to get through the day!

Answer: Hi There, Most babies in the early months will need to be feed every 2-4 hours, it varies from one baby to another. Regardless of whether you are breast or bottle feeding, feeding on demand seems to be the most ideal for baby`s feeding habits. There are some people who believe in routines but really the person who a routine needs to work best for you baby and then you. By far your best guide is your baby, they go through growth spurts, fussy times, teething, illness etc. These are just a few things that can alter a bubs routine. Sounds to me as though you are already onto it, follow your intuition, 3 hourly feeds are very normal, it certainly looks to me like your intuition is in tune with your baby. All the best, Leanne
