Between 7.30pm and 10.30pm she won’t sleep at all

Hi Maree
My four month old is a fairly good sleeper. Typically she’ll settle well for 2 sleeps of approx. 2 hours each through the day followed by a shorter nap late in the afternoon (sometimes this latter nap won’t happen). She will generally sleep well from 10.30pm through to 6.00-7.00am with a feed at around 2.00-3.00am. However, during the period between approx. 7.30 and 10.30pm she won’t sleep at all and if we try and put her down she screams. This means that she will sleep in the next morning: A typical day looks like this with slight variations to the times:

She wakes for a feed at 6.00am, back to bed by 7.00am (when she’ll be showing tired signs) and then will likely sleep through to her next feed at 10.00. This is followed by activity and then a sleep at 11.00-11.30 for a two hour sleep. Next feed is at 2.00, followed by play time and down for a sleep at around 3.00-3.30. She will typically sleep 1-2 hours. Next feed is at 6.00, and she’ll often have a nap from around 6.30 to 7.00. From that time on she won’t sleep until 10.30, at which time she goes to sleep with very little problem.

Are you able to offer any suggestion as to why we are having trouble with the 7.30-10.30 time slot and strategies for fixing it?
Many thanks in anticipation
Wendy

Answer: Hi Wendy, I would not allow the nap from 6.30 to 7pm instead I would be bathing around 5.30 then feed then quiet play and when you see tired signs settle her, if she wakes after 30 mins resettle her and in the mornings don`t let her sleep longer than 1 -11/2 hours at 7am this is too long a nap in the morning because she is tired from overnight. You need to reprogram in these areas. Cheers Maree
