Do you think she is waking for comfort, wanting to know that we are close by?

Hi Maree,
My 7 month old daughter has been sleeping about 10-12 hours a night with a dreamfeed for about 2 months now. But for about the last 2 weeks she has been waking between 2-6 times a night making grunting/whingy sounds. She will go straight back to sleep if we put a dummy in or rest a hand on her back or belly for a few seconds. She has also in the last couple of weeks become a lot more clingy, to me in particular. Do you think that she could she be waking for comfort, just wanting to know that we are close by? And if so, what do you recommend? Do we continue to reassure her that we are there and hope that this doesnt form a habit of waking? or should we do something else?
I appreciate any advice you can give us.
Kind regards,
Hayley.

Answer: Hi Hayley, Around 8 months babies experience 8 month separation anxiety and this may be the cause. I would be inclined to leave her to resettle herself rather than risk creating an unwanted habit especially as she is just wingy not full on in need of a feed or in any obvious pain. Cheers, Maree
