I would like him to go to sleep in his cot by himself

Hello Maree,
I have a 14 month old and I would like to get him to start to go to sleep in his cot by himself. At the moment I lie him on the guest double bed and lie beside him until he is asleep and then move him into his cot. I have to place him in childcare soon and this way of going to sleep will not work. My biggest concern is I really don`t like the comfort/controlled crying of putting babies to sleep. As I have suffered from PND and am still having problems with that having him cry to sleep is something I don`t think I will be able to do. Is there another way I can get him out of this way of going to sleep? Any advise will be great.
Regards

Answer: Hi Ceon, It`s always difficult to change baby`s sleeping habits without upsetting them, this is the way they know how to sleep. You may want to start with you staying in the room with him until he is asleep and then gradually move away day by day while he is still awake until he is happy to go down on his own, I`m not going to say this will work as it`s not the technique we use but you might like to give it a go since you feel you wouldn`t be able to cope with the conventional cc methods. Cheers, Maree
