We need to do something as he seems to be getting worse instead of better

Hello
I have a 2.5yr old and he wont sleep all night. He wakes up several times a night,he wakes up if he is in bed alone,so we have made a bad habit of letting him sleep with one of us ,so he wakes to make sure i am there.we started this bad habit as we both work and have an 18yr old daughter that also works and goes to school,so for peace we staretd the BAD habit. We need to do something as he seems to be getting worse instead of better. He doesn`t have a sleep during the day,as this makes it harder to get him to sleep. We need help so we can have a good night sleep ourselves!!
hope to hear from you soon,
jo

Answer: Hi Jo, Your son simply doesn`t know how to sleep without you and until you allow him to fall asleep on his own in his own bed then things won`t change, he probably doesn`t even know it`s not ok with you because you just do it and this is all he knows why should he change. Imagine you went to sleep in your bed and woke up in the bath at 3am you`d get a fright and want to go back to your bed next to your partner, and this is how your son feels if he wakes and you are not there because you were when he went to bed. If a baby or child goes to sleep on their own and wake on their light sleep (as we all do) then they look around are exactly where and how they went to sleep and resettle themselves again. It`s not easy making the change but necessary if you want to have everyone sleeping in their own bed. Best of luck. Cheers, Maree
