He is generally a good sleeper, although getting him to sleep can be a battle

Hi Maree
I`m a new mum with a 4 month old baby boy, and i think i need some help. My little man, is generally a good sleeper, although getting him to sleep can be a battle. He likes to be either held or rocked to sleep in his pram. He usually goes down around 7pm and gets up around 6.30am. I was just wanting to know how i get him to go down without been held or rocked to sleep? Im not a big fan of controlled crying and im not sure how else to do it?

Also he doesn`t sleep longer than an hour during the day, unless i put him to sleep in his pram and rock him back to sleep if he stirs. How do i get him to sleep longer on his own during the day?

Please help
Cheers

Answer: Hi, This is his sleep association and to change this you would need to teach him to sleep independently. Our It`s Time To Sleep controlled comforting techniques are all hands on at this age and no leaving baby at all. The idea is you follow a feed/play/sleep routine so you feed baby when he wakes, play then watch for tired signs and then settle baby awake into the cot using a patting technique so you pat when baby cries and stop patting as soon as baby stops so you can allow him to fall asleep on his own. During the night you replace play with a nappy change and resettle awake. You can get details from `Your Baby`s Sleep` or from www.itstimetosleep.com Cheers, Maree
