He`ll generally suck his dummy for a couple of minutes and then start crying

Hi Maree
I`ve just started to put my baby to sleep in his cot for his afternoon sleep. He`s 4 months old now and up until a couple of weeks ago he`s always been rocked to sleep in his rocker. I`ve been wrapping him, placing him in his cot, singing and patting him for a couple of minutes and then leaving the room. He`ll generally suck his dummy for a couple of minutes and then start crying. I go in every 10 minutes and resettle him without eye contact but sometimes this will take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. I`ll put him down at 3:30 with a new nappy and he`s finished his feed by 2:15. He`ll usually sleep in the pram on a walk at 10am and doesn`t sleep in the middle of the day. He sleeps ok at night, waking once for a feed. Sometimes he`ll sleep through the night.
Anything I can do for the afternoon sleep and to help him sleep through the night?

Answer: Hi, You might want to give our It`s Time To Sleep settling techniques a go they are all hands on and no leaving baby at this age but teach baby to sleep independently. Also incorporate a feed/play/sleep routine so you can catch tired signs and settle straight away into the cot. Try taking your walk once he`s woken and had a feed this way when you get back he will be ready for another sleep. Cheers, Maree
