I just want him to have a long snooze in the day and settle easier at bed time

Hi.
I have an almost 3 month old boy, he is formula fed. And his sleeping right through the night, but his sleep in the day is a problem and trying to settle him.
After he wakes in the morning and has a bottle he stays up for an hour to 2 hours and then he shows the tired signs so i start putting him to bed. But.. i have to like bounce him in my arms till he stops been bit wingy or rock his cot while his in there to calm him ( i try and stop rocking as soon as he is nearly closing his eyes and stops crying) but he will go to sleep but wakes ever 20mins and i have to resettle, i can sometimes just put his dummy back in or i have to rock the cot and if his screaming i have to get him out and bounce him and his asleep in my arms within seconds! at night when its his bedtime he has a shower and a bottle and i have to bounce him again and put him in his cot but it can be up to an hour somtimes before his properly asleep for the rest of the night. he doesnt like to be wrapped and sleeps on his side or tummy (even if i lie him on his back he wont sleep and he will turn onto his stomach himself)..and insisits on a dummy when in a light sleep, i have tried the time to sleep dvd but its not working? he screams not cries... please help...i just want him to have a long snooze in the day and settle easier at bed time.
Thanks Maree

Answer: Hi, The controlled comforting techniques are extremely difficult to do because baby`s protests are hard to hear and protest he will because he doesn`t want to change his habits, but he is associating sleep with all this bouncing and if you want to change that you would need to persist with trying to settle him awake into his cot. Some babies just prefer to sleep on their side or tummy if he is rolling on his own then you can`t stop progress but do be sure you have your cot made up safely and give him extra tummy time during the day to strengthen his neck.
