Since she moved her into a bed I have had trouble getting her to sleep at night

My daughter Sophia will be four in April and ever since she moved into her bed at the age of two I have had trouble getting her to sleep at night. She insists I lie with her every night which I`m happy to do whilst I read her a story but that is never enough and she will not stay in bed while I am not there. My husband tries to help but she mainly wants me. I have tried a few different techniques like walking her back each time she comes out, standing in the room, reward charts etc etc but it just doesn`t work. She is very strong willed and if you say it`s time for bed she will insist that she is not tired. Now that I also have a six month old I don`t really have time to stay with her in bed. I really need her to go to bed at a set time without all the fuss.

Answer: Hi, Unfortunately Sophia only knows how to sleep with your presence. She also seems to have the upper hand and unless you are willing to take back control and out last her not much will change. I recommend dinner bath quiet play 2 stories and good night leave the room, no compromises, if she gets up put her back over and over again quickly and quietly. Children do need to have boundaries set and they generally thrive on routine, she is at an age where she can understand and you perhaps need to make it clear to her what you want. Best of luck Cheers, Maree
