Now at 12.5 months he seem to have lost that ability to sleep

Dear Maree,
Our son is now 12.5 months old. At 6-7 months we started "Its time to sleep" because of his poor ability to sleep by himself. It work wonders. He went to sleep within 5-10min and slept through from 7pm to 6am the next morning. Now at 12.5 months he seem to have lost that ability to sleep. It all started around one week before his first birthday and seem to be getting worst. Now its taking around 1-2hrs to get him to sleep and he would wake up at 1-2am, then again at 4 am and cry. He refuses to sleep without either the presence of his mum or dad. We carry him until he falls to sleep and put him back in his cot. As soon as he sense he is in his cot he climbs up and cry. Sometimes he would remain laying in the cot until he notice us leave. If we are lucky, he will remain asleep when we leave. On bad nights he end up sleeping in our bed.

He also started Creche last week (half day for 2 days only and would be increased to 3 full days this week). He is recovering from a cold (picked up on his first day at Creche). Got stuffy nose, particulary during at night which might be affecting his breathing.

Would the cold and changes (Creche) be contributing to him not been able to sleep through the night (although his sleep habit had started to change before these events).

Can we still sue the control comforting techniuqe at his age?

Maree...
Answer: Hi,
Lots of things can contribute to a sudden change but you can definitely use the 6 to 12 months techniques again he will probably respond really quickly as he has done so before. Best of luck.

Cheers, Maree
