I`ve noticed that her normal 2.30am feed is starting to stretch out later

Hi Maree,
My little girl is 2 months old (although she was born 7 weeks prem so she has a corrected age of 2 weeks now). She has no trouble sleeping, has 6 feeds per day with 4 hours in between and seems to have an alarm clock in her bed with her as she pretty much wakes on the dot to feed. I`m not complaining, but I`ve noticed that her normal 2.30am feed is starting to stretch out later and last night, she slept through the entire thing and only took half the bottle as a result. I`m starting to wonder if she`s ready to sleep through longer at night. Are there any dangers with a newborn doing this?
Thanks

Answer: Hi Pia, You might not expect baby to sleep right through the night until 6 months and what`s happening now may not last. It`s certainly ok if baby sleeps through so long as she is feeding well during the day, is happy and gaining weight. Probably the best advice I can give you is always settle baby awake into her cot and this way you know she is sleeping independently and if she is waking it is most likely out of hunger not habit. Enjoy the extra rest! Cheers, Maree
