I would like my good sleeping girl back

My 6 months old has for the past month or so started to wake at least 3 times during the night. At 3 months she was sleeping through but after 2 months of this it suddenly stopped. There has been no other changes in her lifestyle or habits. I recently started solids in an attempt to change her routine and hopefully her sleep patterns but to no avail. She seems to be waking for comforting by being put on the breast rather than actually hunger. I would really like my good sleeping girl back. Any suggestions?

Answer: Hi, From about 6 months on a baby should be able to sleep 7pm to 7am without and overnight feed. It sounds like she is becoming dependent on a comfort feed to sleep. Give her the benefit of the doubt for another few weeks at least with one overnight feed and then you could try a 10 pm rollover feed . The rollover feed will give you confidence that she has had a feed at 10pm and you can go straight into using settling techniques. . The most important thing is that you settle her awake into her cot at night initially and even if you are feeding her at night once, be sure to resettle her awake into the cot again so she learns to sleep independently. You can get an overview of our settling program from the Your Baby`s Sleep section of the Huggies site or for more detail, and a visual demonstration; It`s Time To Sleep DVD & BOOK. Cheers, Maree
