We haven`t slept one full night

Hi Maree,
I have a question about my 5 month old. He won`t sleep through, i know every baby is different, but i`m really keen to know how i can improve his sleeping. it has been 5 months now, that we haven`t slept one full night and my husband and i are getting frustrated and very much over it.
Thanks Sarah

Answer: Hi Sarah, From about 6 months on a baby should be able to sleep 7pm to 7am without and overnight feed. It sounds like he is becoming dependent on a comfort feed to sleep. Give him the benefit of the doubt for another month or so at least with one overnight feed and then you could try a 10 pm rollover feed . The rollover feed will give you confidence that he has had a feed at 10pm and you can go straight into using settling techniques. . The most important thing is that you settle him awake into his cot at night initially and even if you are feeding him at night once, be sure to resettle him awake into the cot again so he learns to sleep independently. You can get an overview of our settling program from the Your Baby`s Sleep section of the Huggies site or for more detail, and a visual demonstration; It`s Time To Sleep DVD & BOOK. Cheers, Maree
