She has gone from sleeping 14hrs at night to waking up 2 - 6 times at night

Hi Maree I have a 14month old daughter who has gone from sleeping 14hrs at night to waking up anything from 2 - 6 times at night this started around 7 months old. It can take me anything from 30 mins to 4 hours to get her back to sleep and then she might only sleep for 2 hrs and she is awake again? She was able to settle herself but when this started she stopped that and wont settle herself anymore just screams until holding her breath i have tried controlled crying, staying in the room so she knows that i am still there and nothing seems to be working. So now when she does wake up i can give her bottle and sometimes that helps to get her back to sleep quicker but i cant see that she would be hungry as she has plenty of bottles and food throughout the day.

Answer: Hi, Sometimes we try so many things that baby and mother both become confused. She is now associating sleep with you and if you want to change this then you will need to reteach her to sleep independently. Our settling program does use controlled comforting techniques but they are structured techniques and offer a clear message that it`s time to sleep. Baby will of course protest these changes and this is hard, the program is not for everyone. Cheers, Maree
